Why Dowona ?
Dᴐwᴐna è una parola ewe che può significare progetto, occupazione, lavoro o attività a seconda del contesto in cui viene usata. La lingua ewe viene parlata nel Togo e in alcune zone del Ghana sudorientale e Benin, da circa 20 milioni di persone.
Dᴐwᴐna is an Ewe word that can mean project, occupation, labor or activity depending on the context in which it is used. The Ewe Language is spoken in West African countries of Ghana, Togo and Benin.
Le famiglie provenienti da tutto il mondo a New York, che partecipano alle riunioni del consiglio degli istituti scolastici (CEC) chiedono come mai i loro figli non possono mantenere la loro lingua di origine pur frequentando le scuole pubbliche di New York.
Worldwide immigrant families regularly attend education council meetings asking why their children cannot maintain their native/heritage language whilst receiving education in New York City public schools .
The importance of learning modern languages as a path towards cultural understanding and acceptance of others, has become crucial in many cities worldwide, New York included.
It is exactly for this reason that I support a terrific language initiative called Dowona, which focusses on creating an intentionally inclusive, international language and multicultural middle and high school in New York City's School District 3.
